Located
on Via de la Valle within the City of San Diego, Rancho del Mar proposes a
diverse congregate care community that offers a range of care to aging seniors -
from maintaining good health to a high level of care for the frail elderly.
The project offers a variety of housing opportunities, each with
their own unique characteristics: Villas, Independent Living, Assisted
Living, Nursing Care and a Clinic. The site plan was designed to provide a
mixture of two-story and three-story buildings to produce an interesting and
varied architectural composition when seen from the surrounding community and
polo fields.
Villas
The Villa’s provide seniors the ability to have in-home care via detached
casita’s or second floor apartments. The more residential scaled Villa’s
help buffer the development from the adjacent hillside homes.
Independent and Assisted Living
The I&A building is designed to provide primarily single loaded and exterior
courtyard access to individual residential units through an ‘Alhambra’ type
courtyard space plan. This provides a more residential type experience while
achieving a higher density project to minimize travel distances between
residential units and common amenities. The building has a resort hotel
like arrival sequence. Residents, families and friends enter into a tree
lined Arrival Courtyard with a porte cochere.
Independent
Living apartments are located on the ground (garden) level. Amenities
include a Lounge, Terrace, (2) Dining Rooms, Library, Swimming Pool w/ Locker
Rooms, Exercise, Club Rooms and a variety of terraces. Other outdoor
amenities include a sports lawn and community garden.
Assisted Living residences are located on the second floor and portion of the
third floor. Amenities include Living, Dining and Lounge areas supported by
Nursing stations and rehabilitation areas.
Nursing Care
and Clinic Building
The Nursing Care building provides a high level of care in an efficient higher
density building. The (3) wings allow for smaller ‘neighborhoods’ which
are easily managed by a team of nurses. Amenities include a Reception with
Library Lounge. Each wing has Living, Dining, Bathing, and a Nursing Station. A
Rehabilitation room is also provided.
The ground level wing provides Alzheimer’s care with access to a secured garden.
All Nursing Care residents would have access to garden areas.
The Clinic provides both the project residents and the surrounding community a
convenient place for health check-ups, monitoring of health problems and short
term care.
Ground level Senior’s Daycare could provide the community a place that could
care for seniors during day/work time hours.
