MARINA VILLAGE

Marina Village is a part of the City of San Diego’s charming and unique Mission Bay Park, near the Sea World Adventure Park and Marina. Due to Mission Bay Park’s limited land and water resources, an efficient management approach was created to render a “maximum sustainable benefit”. The 36-acre Marina Village redevelopment project proposal intends to implement sustainability through appropriate planning and engineering to ensure that the greatest possible number of users continue to enjoy this unique area without compromising the Park’s ability to meet recreational needs of the future.

An essential part of the Mission Bay Park’s planning efforts is to achieve a design in which every square foot of the Park’s land and water is planned to yield the most benefit for as many functions as possible, including management for long-term environmental health. Although Marina Village is located entirely within the “Commerical-oriented Recreation” region of the Mission Bay Master Plan, it is the goal our firm’s goal to ensure issues of water quality and environmental resources are addressed so as to protect the northern and southern wildlife preserves, as well as upland areas.

Of the 36-acre Marina Village project area, 18 acres are located on land and consist of a 500-room hotel and conference center; the remaining area comprises a 630-slip marina. Elements of the redevelopment Master Plan that are currently in the works include re-configuration of the Marina and the design of the new hotels. Shapouri & Associates is working to ensure that these elements will enable the land to be used to it’s utmost potential, while making certain there are no significant current or future environmental impacts, which would preclude a sustainable design.
